Living to Go

Green traffic light

Jesus not only calls us to Him, He invites us to go for Him.  We refer to this as the Great Commission, which if you break down actually means co-mission.  It means joining with Jesus.  And it’s recorded in Matthew 28, where Jesus says to His disciples: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  Teach these new disciples to obey all My commands I have given you.  And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:19-20).

In his book, The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren writes: “These words of Jesus are not the Great Suggestion.  If you are part of God’s family, your mission is mandatory” (Warren, pg. 283).  This commission is given to every follower of Jesus.  This is your mission.  It’s my mission.  And “although it is a big responsibility, it is also an incredible honor to be used by God” (Warren, pg. 283).

At Cross of Christ we want to be a people living to go.  That is to say:  We want to be a people on the move, joining in were God is already at work.  This past Sunday, November 1, we took steps forward in the area of missions.  Locally we are collecting nonperishable food items to help families in need within our community.  Nationally we are praying for, and looking for ways to help a new church start in Aurora, NE.  It turns out that the name of their church is also Cross of Christ.  How cool is that?  Globally we are collecting nonperishable food items, used clothing, hygiene products, and other goods that can be used to help the victims in the Philippines who have suffered two major typhoons in September and October.  The typhoons caused massive flooding, killed scores of people, and has forced thousands to flee their homes.  Please keep these families in your prayers.

At Cross of Christ, missions are more than just a ministry of the church.  Missions are part of our spiritual DNA.  It’s who we are.  It’s what we do.  If you would like to know more about how you can help, please contact me.  You can reach me by phone at 303-335-8996 or by email at pastordplappe@yahoo.com.
