Fearless

In the Gospels alone, Jesus urges us to “not be afraid” 21 times. The second most common command is to love God and love others, but it only appears 8 times. What this tells us is that Jesus takes our fears seriously. And we all have fears. We fear layoffs at work. We fear the economy. We fear flare ups in the Middle East. The list just seems to go on and on.
As the angel reassured the shepherds keeping watch over their sheep at night: “Don’t be afraid! I bring you good news of great joy to all people. The Savior – yes, the Messiah, the Lord – has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize Him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped in snugly strips of cloth, lying in a manger” (Luke 2:10-12 NLT).
During the weeks in January, we will discuss topics like: Fear of Not Mattering, Fear of Disappointing God, Fear of Running Out, Fear of Overwhelming Challenges, and Fear of What’s Next.
Can you imagine a life without fear? What if faith, not fear was your default mechanism? What if love really could cancel out our fears? Join us in 2010 as we start to live fearless!
“God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them…Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear” (1 John 4:16, 18 NLT).
