Why Covenant?

“Then God spoke to Noah and his sons: ‘I’m setting up my covenant with you including your children who will come after you, along with everything alive around you.’”  Genesis 9:8-9 THE MESSAGE

At Cross of Christ we believe that loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind; and loving others as yourself is what it means to be church.  Covenant is simply a way of declaring that loving God and others is, in fact, a serious reality in your life.  Covenant is actually a biblical word that implies meaningful relationship.  It was God who covenanted with Noah, with Abram, and with the people of Israel.  By doing so God was saying, “I will be your God, and you will be My people.”  At Cross of Christ we want to invite you to covenant with us.  By doing so, you are saying that with the help of God you will live out our shared values and join us in intersecting life & the love of Jesus.

Built on our belief that God’s Word alone is the basis for life and faith, we value these Biblical practices and intentionally look for ways to intersect them at every possible point of the church’s mission.

1. Remember it’s Not About Me

“For to me, living means living for Christ.”  Philippians 1:21 NLT

2. Keep it Simple

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind…and love your neighbor as yourself.”  Matthew 22:37, 39 NLT

3. Speak the Truth in Love

“We will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ.”  Ephesians 4:14 NLT

4. Give it Your Best

“Bring the very best of the first harvest to the house of the Lord your God.”  Exodus 23:19 NLT

5. Be Encouraging and Accepting of Everyone

“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.  And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.”  Hebrews 10:24-25 NLT

6. Connect Those Exploring

“And you will be My witnesses telling people about Me everywhere – in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”  Acts 1:8 NLT

7. Believe that Eternity Matters Most

“And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?  Is anything worth more than your soul?”  Matthew16:26 NLT
