FAQ

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for.”  Matthew 7:7 NLT

FAQ:  What denomination is this?

Cross of Christ is a Lutheran Church.  And as part of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, we teach and respond to the love of the Triune God: the Father, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over death and Satan; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God’s Word and Sacraments.

FAQ:  What do you mean by Sacraments?

We understand a Sacrament to be commanded by God in His Word, a means (way) to receive the free gift of grace He has to offer, and having a visible element attached to it.  Based on this simple definition we believe, teach, and confess the Sacrament of Baptism and the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.

FAQ:  What is Baptism?

Martin Luther said it this way:  “Baptism is not just plain water, but it is the water included in God’s command and combined with God’s Word.”  So what’s so special about a handful of simple water?  Nothing, until God connects His Word to it!  In Baptism, that is exactly what God is doing.  He combines His life-creating and life-giving Word with the waters of Holy Baptism, and thereby we are born again of water and the Spirit (John 3:5).  Baptism is all God’s doing.  For in and through Baptism, God forgives us of all of our sins, saves us from the power of Satan, and gives us everlasting life!

FAQ:  What is the Lord’s Supper?

We believe the Lord’s Supper is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, under the bread and wine, given to us Christians to eat and to drink.  As Jesus Himself says: “Take and eat; this is My body,” and “Drink from it, all of you.  This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins” (Matthew 26:26-28; Mark 14:22-25; Luke 22:14-20; 1 Corinthians 11:17-29).  In the eating of bread and drinking of wine, those who believe the promise:  “Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins,” receives forgiveness of sins, life and salvation.

FAQ:  What if I absolutely do not believe in God, am I still welcome?

Yes!  You absolutely are welcome.  Our hope is then that you will be open to exploring your questions about God and wrestling with what you find out.

FAQ:  Do I have to become a member to attend?

No!  You do not have to become a member to attend.  You don’t even have to be a member to participate.  But during your time at Cross of Christ, you may hear us talk about covenant membership.  Why covenant?  Covenant is simply a way of declaring that loving God and others is, in fact, a serious reality in your life.  Covenant is actually a biblical word that implies meaningful relationship.  And all are invited to covenant with us.  By doing so, you are saying that with the help of God you will live out our shared values and join us in intersecting life & the love of Jesus.

FAQ:  What should I wear?

We’re more concerned about meeting your real life needs then what you wear.  So dress casually and you’ll fit right in.

FAQ:  What do I do with my kids?

Bring them!  Your child will love Kid’s Church, which is offered during our Sunday morning services for kids from birth through 5th grade.  There your child will be surrounded by adults who are committed to a safe, fun environment.

FAQ:  Who funds this place?

It’s the generosity of everyday people in our community that helps to fuel the mission of Cross of Christ through their giving of time, talents, and financial support.  We believe, as the Bible teaches, that we are blessed so that we can be a blessing.  Giving of ourselves financially and in service is a way for us to experience God moving in our own lives as we intersect life & the love of Jesus.
